Alternate Legacies - update
Workshops have taken place at The Bridge Community Centre on Thursdays from September through the beginning of December led by Sharon Haward & LĂ©onie Young.
The workshops' theme has explored the local heritage, personal histories & stories. The group has been encouraged to bring in objects which have a personal significance; these have included a stoneware bottle dug up in a garden & women's magazines from WWII. Haward & Young have photographed these objects to create a range of images for the final large scale photographs.
The photographs will be installed on the gable wall & the front of The Bridge Community Centre in early January 2017. This will be coordinated with an exhibition of small format photos at Hastings Museum & Art Gallery 14 January-19 February 2017
Playland: There and Here opened at Electo Studios Project Space-ESPS, Seaside Road, St Leonards-on-Sea on 3 November 2016 until 20 November.
In addition to Darakchiev's film People Pebble, a still b/w lightbox image & series of b/w photographs shot in the film's locations, the exhibition's public engagement element featured a collection of photographs & a film of & by participants from The Links Project, St Leonards. These works captured the participants' encounters with local landscapes, community & heritage while reflecting their responses to time & place. Victoria Cristal, Lyudmila Georgieva & Igor Palmik chose to work in Alexandra Park, a place which held special memories for them. All elements were brought together in collaboration with artists Nicole Zaaroura & Sharon Haward & presented alongside Darakchiev's installation.
Playland: There and Here was realised through Hastings Borough Council's Match Funding Scheme

Playland: A Sense of Place took place at Limbo Arts, 2 Bilton Square, High Street, Margate from 6-22 October 2016.
To engage with local people, artist Sharon Haward led two 'Memory & Souvenir Afternoons' at Margate Museum (10 & 24 September) where local residents, visitors to the Museum & volunteers could share their memorabilia, objects & stories about Margate's past & present. Haward produced photo montages of this material which reflected changing times & places.
As an extension of Playland, Haward has installed large scale photo montages in Margate Station which will ensure a wide audience has access to the work which was inspired by Margate Museum. The photographs can be seen at the station from 10 December 2016.
Playland: A Sense of Place received the support of The Big Lottery Fund through Awards For All & a KCC Combined member Grant from Cllr Will Scobie.
